Following consultation, Ofcom has agreed to simplify non-geographic phone numbers, that is those numbers used for the provision of services to the public.
This means two fundamental changes will need to be made to any ads you submit to Clearcast that include phone numbers, from 1 July 2015:
The first change and what this means for your ads:
Phone numbers starting with either 080 or 116 will be free from all lines, either fixed or mobile.
There will no longer be a need to state in ads that calls to these numbers will attract a charge from mobiles.
The second change and what this means for your ads:
Numbers starting with 084, 087, 09 or 118, (generally known as revenue sharing numbers) will need to separate the Access Charge to the number and the Service Charge per minute to these numbers.
Although fixed Access Charges have been set by Ofcom, depending on which type of number is being called, there will be no requirement to state the cost of the access charge in advertising.
Ads asking viewers to call numbers starting with 084, 087, 09 or 118 will need to state ”Calls cost Xp per minute plus your phone company’s access charge”. We won’t be able to approve an ad without this info.
These changes are being implemented on 1 July 2015 and there is no grace period. For more information visit www.ukcalling.info/industry
