Director of Commercial and Marketing

Job purpose:

To lead a team maintaining and extending Clearcast’s client base and range of services, adapting to market conditions and creating and maximising new opportunities for Clearcast to serve advertisers, agencies and broadcasters.

The role:

The Commercial and Marketing Director reports to the Managing Director and will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team. This team works on all aspects of the running and direction of Clearcast and regularly reports to the Clearcast Board.

The Commercial and Marketing Director will lead on and be responsible for shaping Clearcast’s commercial offerings to the marketplace. They will work with the Senior Leadership Team and the industry to identify opportunities to enhance Clearcast’s offer to the industry, specifically:

  • making it quicker and easier to get ads to air
  • working with industry bodies to provide services that will build more trust in advertising
  • minimising duplication of effort at sales houses by offering centralised services
  • enhancing the data that is available to the industry to gain a better understanding of the advertising marketplace
  • promoting our clearance services to potential new customers

This role is crucial to ensure that Clearcast is working with the industry to provide products and services that help promote trust and efficiency in advertising in general. The successful applicant will be an expert in planning the sales strategy of any new services from small additional services to larger and more complex undertakings.

To support this, you will oversee a robust communications and marketing strategy that aligns with our sales initiatives and reinforces our core message as a trusted brand. The Clearcast brand is valued by the industry and how we position ourselves is increasingly important to the management team and the board.

The Commercial and Marketing Director will be responsible for a small commercial team and a small communications team. They will lead the commercial relationships with our key suppliers.

What will you be doing?

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Working with the Managing Director and the Senior Leadership Team to provide leadership, vision and strategic direction to Clearcast and to achieve Clearcast business and service objectives
  • Working with the Managing Director to develop and enhance services related to copy clearance and to respond to the needs of the adverting industry through client-facing activities
  • Developing relationships with industry bodies, shareholder customers, agencies and advertisers to ensure that Clearcast offerings meet market demand and enhance the profile and reputation of advertising
  • Working with the Communications team to effectively market existing and new services, providing direction to make sure they can support business goals and commercial targets
  • Shaping products, setting prices, creating business cases and go to market strategies
  • Working with the Managing Director to hit targets in line with the current business plan
  • Undertaking research with customers on the range of services offered by Clearcast and identifying any gaps or ways that current services could be improved
  • Championing and leading any new product or service development, from innovation through to successful implementation across each business function (billing, any IT support or changes needed over and above the current state), to enable it to become a core part of the business
  • Effectively lead, manage and motivate the commercial team ensuring it continues to look for new opportunities to respond to the needs of the industry
  • Managing the commercial relationships with key suppliers

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Being a role model for Clearcast’s values
  • Understanding of the audio-visual media services sector, particularly new developments
  • A sound understanding of business, including corporate objectives and target setting
  • An understanding of advertising industry systems, workflows and use of technology would be helpful, but an interest in and understanding of technology is essential

  • Experience and knowledge of advertising agencies, the advertising market, and advertising technology would be a distinct advantage
  • A track record of managing suppliers is essential

The salary package is dependant on experience.

This is a full-time permanent role Monday – Friday 35hrs a week.

We offer hybrid working. We ask our full-time employees to attend the office two days a week on Wednesday, Thursdays or Fridays.
